Emily the villain in ‘Iron Man 3′

Hollywood studio bosses have come up with an ingenious solution to the on-set rivalry between actresses Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow – separating them.

I revealed how the pair clashed on the set of Iron Man 2 after Scarlett, 25, was drafted in to play the femme fatale Russian spy character Black Widow.

At 37, Gwyneth, who plays Iron Man’s feisty PA Pepper Potts, was not impressed when her younger rival received more attention in the publicity campaign and made her displeasure known to film bosses.

Now I hear producers are planning to give Scarlett her own role in a break-out movie and are also hoping to land British star Emily Blunt to play the villain in the next Iron Man instalment.

‘The plan is to cast Scarlett as the Black Widow in a spin-off film with Robert Downey Jnr called The Avengers,’ says a source.

‘They are desperate to have Emily as the villain in the next Iron Man film and will continue to have Gwyneth playing Pepper, though she won’t feature in The Avengers.’

Salmon Fishing…filming starts

Commuters may have done a double take this morning as the cream of British acting talent shot scenes for a new film on the streets of London.

Kristin Scott Thomas, Ewan McGregor and Emily Blunt were out and about filming romantic comedy Salmon Fishing In The Yemen.

The movie is an adaptation of Paul Torday’s novel, which tells the story of a government scientist called Dr Alfred Jones who is given the seemingly impossible task of introducing salmon into the Yemen wadis by a sheikh.

And given the political nature of the film, the cast were suitably attired in smart clothes to portray their parliamentarian characters.

Scott Thomas play Patricia Maxwell, the British Prime Minister’s spokesperson – an ever so slightly more glamorous version of spin doctors past and present, Alastair Campbell and Andy Coulson.

Her character decides the salmon introduction is the perfect news story for the area and puts Alfred in charge of the project’s success.

McGregor stars as Dr Jones while Emily Blunt plays the representative for the sheikh, who starts to fall for the scientist as they begin working together on the project.

The trio are in their second week of filming, and have previously shot scenes on Hampstead Heath and on the banks of the Thames, where McGregor was photographed showing off his fly fishing skills.

Salmon Fishing In The Yemen is due for release in 2012.

Emily joins campaign for U.K. Film Council

LONDON — Emily Blunt, James McAvoy, Bill Nighy and Ian Holm are just some of the 50-plus actors who have put their names Thursday to a letter calling for the government to save the U.K. Film Council.

The open letter penned to The Daily Telegraph, the national newspaper long regarded as having Conservative views, condemns the Tory-led coalition government’s recent decision to axe the government-backed agency (HR 7/26).

Signatories also including Timothy Spall, Pete Postlethwaite and Sophie Okonedo added their names to the letter warning that the decision to pull the plug threatens to seriously damage the entire British film industry.

“Everyone, including those in the film industry, knows that times are tough. But the UKFC doesn’t waste money, it makes it,” the letter reads. “Thanks to its [UKFC] efforts, our film industry — worth £4.5 billion ($7.16 billion) a year — has rarely been stronger.”

‘Airbrushing makes you look like Barbie. Who the hell wants to look like that?’

She said: ‘I don’t like it when they stretch you out and make you all long and skinny.

‘It makes you look like a Barbie. Who the hell looks like that?’

But while she might not have been elongated for this photo shoot, it’s clear that her complexion has had some touching up for the pictures for the September edition of the magazine, out on sale next Wednesday.

Emily recently married American actor John Krasinski, 30, one of the stars of the US version of The Office in an intimate ceremony in Italy.

The couple live in Los Angeles but Emily, who grew up in south west London, said even though she loves it there, she won’t forget her roots.

Emily graces the cover of the September edition of Elle magazine which is on sale on August 4

She added: ‘I feel very transatlantic. I shoot in England all the time, and I’m really close to my family and friends there.

‘I know that maybe there’s a perception that I’ve abandoned what’s true to me but I still maintain it and I never want to look like I’m disregarding where I came from.’

And she said she has no plans to go ‘all Hollywood’.

She said: ‘British people pretend to hate LA but they completely love it. I’m going back on Thursday and I’m so excited. I get to swim in a pool.’

And Emily also insisted that she won’t conform to the Hollywood ideal.

She said: ‘Don’t worry, I’m not on cleanses or doing Pilates every day. Not to stereotype Hollywood girls.’

Ill try and remember to go and buy ELLE or get the scans from somewhere.
